“Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have
been.” – David Bowie
Where you finally learn the weight of a moment,
the importance of laughter,
the value of taking a day to yourself.
Where intimacy becomes less about the breathless moments
and more about the people who help
you catch your breath.
Where you can finally stretch your limbs,
kick out the sides of the box you put yourself in.
Where you might feel like you’ve lost the glamour,
but dammit if your confidence isn’t sexier,
your aura more alluring, your quiet grace more enticing
than that shimmering fountain of youth.
Where your heart is now your armor and not the sword
that pierces you through.
Where you can let go of the pretenses, the ego,
the unsteady ground.
Where you don’t need to be anyone else than
who you are now.

The root of the piece:
Because there is so much freedom and beauty that comes with letting go of the expectations and BS that you cling to when you’re young. Happy weekend, Loves!
I just came across your page through Button Poetry on Instagram and I really appreciate and can relate to what I’ve read so far. Going inward and being insanely honest with ourselves is beyond terrifying, at least when we first start to realize how much we’ve either pushed down or covered up. I’m being a bit vague, but trauma however big or small creeps up on us and takes hold of our bodies and minds , forcing us to find some sort of freedom or at least bearable truth. Sorry this is long, but it’s just coming out of me. In short, I enjoy what you’ve written and am going to read more.
